Artists may ask themselves many times during their career, what really inspires them and how they stay motivated? They also ask themselves if they are even good enough to consider themselves an artist. These questions combined with millions of others are just a few of the ones that make artists overthink their work. One quote that I can say has been something that not only motivates me but keeps me thinking of how far I’ve gone is, “There is no right way to make art. The only wrong is in not trying. Not doing. Don’t put barriers up that aren’t there just get to work and make something.” Lisa Golightly
Art is a means for me to disconnect myself from reality, and focus on myself and the work I'm doing. As an artist, I strive to have my work speak for itself; it's my method of getting the audience to spend more time thinking about it, and how they relate to my work. Studio Art is the term for the sort of work I perform. It's generally a mix of different kinds of art. I've mostly focused on sculpting and large-scale works of art, although I like creating a wide range of work and dabbling in a variety of art areas. I get inspired by other artist that also work with other types of art that create a complex artwork that might take longer to understand why the artist decided to add to a finished piece, for me I like to get in the mindset of the artist and try to analyze why he/she did it, what was his purpose for adding to his artwork. Art, I believe, is so valuable in its ability to convey the in-between spaces and stimulate in us a powerful feeling of the uncanny. I’ve always been surrounded by my father, and his friends who are unconditionally talented.
Growing up with them in my life I’ve always smelled paint, burning wood, always smelling paint thinner or gas to clean bushes. Often the work takes on various forms once I look back at my intended first sketch. This happens because of excitement when starting the artwork or once the artwork is in progress things tend to not go as planned. Artwork to me still remains a strong source of how I share my thoughts and ideas, feelings, emotions to the audience. Using art has the possibilities of changing one’s thoughts or opening the audience to new ideas / thoughts/ feelings/ emotions from my artwork.
I love working with emotion/feelings and love that it can be portrayed in many ways when my audiences interact with it. I plan to teach students in school and out of school about various types of Art. I want to bring inspiration to students/and anyone who wants to learn Art. Without the ability to actualize an idea or concept, art would not exist. My work is a constant search for the best way to interpret the idea that I have about either myself or my memories and the world I live in. I do not limit myself to one medium, style or concept because I love to explore all types of art to be able to create a masterpiece that’s challenging. My inspiration and ideas always change when creation is in motion. Knowledge changes, knowledge strikes, new ideas come to life. Each piece I create is a concurrent extension from my past and where I’ve come from and what I’ve learned, as well as previews of a better future.
I like to think that if you're willing to do something creative that you know might not turn into something good or won’t work out as planned, it just means you’re getting better at what you do. Because it’s not always about having it be pretty or cool, but about it being what you intended it to be.
